KOLKATA - Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee Sunday appealed to the Congress to ally with her party to jointly fight the coming West Bengal assembly elections.

“We want a grand alliance of common people. We appeal to the Congress to come forward and form an alliance with us,” Banerjee said at a Trinamool Congress rally here.

“I also appeal to the SUCI (Socialist Unity Centre of India-Communist) from this stage to join the alliance,” she said.

“For the change in the state, there is a need for a grand alliance of the people,” the leader said.

In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool Congress had forged an alliance with the Congress and the SUCI.
