BHOPAL - The Congress is yet to field its top leaders in the campaign for by-elections to two Madhya Pradesh assembly seats Feb 14, where vote hunting has entered the final stage.

With less then a week before polls in Kukshi and Sonkatch constituencies, both held by Congress, party workers are still waiting for senior leaders to attend rallies.

“Our top leaders, including union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath and Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia will take part in the campaign in the coming days,” J.P. Dhanopia, Congress spokesperson, told IANS.

The Kukshi seat got vacant after the death of veteran leader Jamua Devi in September. Devi, who was also leader of opposition, was first elected to the assembly in 1952. She was elected from Kukshi for the sixth time in 2008.

The Sonkatch seat fell vacant after Sajjan Singh Verma was elected to the Lok Sabha.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has been holding extensive campaigns in the two constituencies, with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state president Prabhat Jha attending rallies.
