JAMMU - Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra has returned the file appointing income tax officer G.R. Sufi as the state’s chief information commissioner (CIC) because it did not have the clearance of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

Sufi, an income tax officer, was recommended for the post last week by a panel headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the file was sent for formal appointment to the governor, official sources said Thursday.

“But the file has been returned to the government as the clearance of the CVC was not there with the papers seeking Sufi’s appointment,” an official told IANS.

“This was mandatory,” he added.

The government will seek the CVC’s clearance for Sufi’s appointment before sending the file back to the governor, the sources said.
