By IANSMonday, January 31, 2011
ISLAMABAD - Islamabad is “watching what is happening” in Egypt and will evacuate its citizens if the situation worsens, authorities said.
Express Tribune reported Monday that the Foreign Office did not make it clear as to when it plans to bring back around 150 Pakistani families.
Anti-government protests in Egypt Monday entered the seventh day as demonstrators demanded the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak who has been in power for the past 30 years.
We are in touch with our mission in Cairo. We are watching what is happening there, Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit was quoted as saying Sunday.
India has already initiated the process to bring back its citizens amid the political upheaval.
Around 300 Indians, mostly women and children, were returning to India Monday aboard a special flight of Air India.
“The government has arranged a special Air India flight at the request of the Indian community in Egypt in view of the prevailing conditions there,” the Indian external affairs ministry said in a statement Sunday.
