BJP accuses UP Govt. of failing to maintain law and order

AGRA - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Government in Uttar Pradesh of failing miserably in maintaining law and order.
BJP workers said the State Government is working against the interest of farmers.
“Mayawati Government is against the interest of farmers and businessmen. The whole state is caught in a spate of crimes. Incidences of theft, murder, robbery, abduction and rape are increasing day-by-day,” said BJP MLA Ramshankar Ketheria.
“And, the government has partially given important positions to its party members and so law and order situation is in shambles here,” he added.
Recently, BSP MLA Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi was taken into custody on charges of raping a minor Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda District.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, however, on January 20 said the BSP Government led by her is taking the Banda rape case ‘very seriously’, and added that strict action will be initiated against those who have taken the law into their hands.
The girl was allegedly raped on December 10-11 at Dwivedi’s residence. She escaped from the MLA’s house on December 12, when he allegedly attempted to rape her for the third time and charged her with theft.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Banda has sent Dwivedi to 14 days of judicial custody.
The MLA, who was on the run after orders for his arrest were issued, was taken into custody on January 13.
The investigating officials, who conducted the preliminary inquiry, have found that Dwivedi had raped the teenager and framed her in a false theft case. (ANI)
