CHENNAI - With elections for the Tamil Nadu assembly around the corner, AIADMKs sitting member P.K. Sekar Babu, along with his supporters, joined the DMK Saturday in the presence of the ruling party leader and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.
Babu, elected to the assembly from Doctor Radhakrishnan Nagar constituency in north Chennai, called on Karunanidi at his Gopalapuram residence in the morning after meeting Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the chief minister’s son, two days back.
Once a powerful leader, Babu was recently sidelined by the AIADMK, divesting him of his party posts.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Karunanidhi, he said that loyal workers in the AIADMK do not get respect.
Babu is the fourth senior AIADMK leader to join the DMK. Earlier former minister V. Sathyamoorthy and legislative assembly members L. Radhakrishnan, Anitha R. Radkhakrishnan and K. Rajendran have joined the DMK.
Another AIADMK legislator S.V. Sekhar has been maintaining independent stand in the assembly and is expected to join the Congress.
