Haryana celebrates Republic Day with fanfare

PANCHKULA - Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia Wednesday hoisted the national flag and took the salute at the ceremonial parade here to celebrate the country’s 62nd Republic Day.

The festivities were marked by colourful performances by school children on patriotic songs and daredevil acts performed by Haryana police commandos on their motorcycles.

Pahadia released a couple of doves to mark the day.

Pahadia also honoured 41 people from different walks of life for their extraordinary work and contribution to the society. They included freedom fighter Desh Raj Azad, a resident of this Haryana town, around 10 km away from the state capital Chandigarh.

There was a colourful procession of floats by various government departments, depicting their schemes and achievements.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda unfurled the national flag at the Republic Day function at Kaithal town.

Republic Day functions were also organised at various schools and colleges across the state.
