Officials discuss poll arrangements for Kolkata

KOLKATA - With the West Bengal assembly polls barely months away, senior state government officers held deliberations with the city police Tuesday on the arrangements and the level of preparedness to ensure peaceful, free and fair elections in the city.

“All preparations are on board. We are confident of holding smooth polls,” state chief electoral officer Sunil Gupta told waiting media persons after emerging from the meeting at the city police headquarters in Lalbazar.

Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh, Home Secretary G.D. Goutama, city Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty, and other top officers as also the officers-in-charge of police stations were present.

“We talked about whether some special arrangements need to be made. We also took a look at the past elections and discussed the steps needed to ensure peaceful polls,” Gupta said.
