Srinivas to continue as Andhra Congress chief

NEW DELHI - The Congress Friday announced that D. Srinivas will continue as the party’s chief in Andhra Pradesh.
Shri D. Srinivas, president of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, will continue to hold the same office till further orders, said a statement issued by Oscar Fernandes, chairman of the party’s Central Election Authority.
Party sources said that the announcement was made amid sepculation about the name of Srinivas being considered for appointment as deputy chief minister.
Srinivas hails from the Telangana region, where political leaders have made a strong pitch for a separarte state.
They said the announcement has also come at a time when the party is taking stock of the participation of some of its members of parliament and the state legislature in the protest organised by former MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in Delhi to highlight the problems of farmers and against the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal Award.
They said Srinivas’ term as state Congress chief had ended and the annoucement of his continuation is expected to strengthen his positiion in dealing with cases of indiscipline”.
