NEW DELHI - The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Friday released an additional Rs.50 lakh for each of its councilors in response to their demand for more money to develop their constituencies.

“The civic body has released Rs.50 lakh each under the annual fund and this will take the total amount for each councilor to Rs.1 crore. So a total of Rs.136 crore has been released,” an MCD official said.

The chairmen of several ward committees had said Wednesday that the allocation for councilors’ funds should be increased and they should get a fixed salary.

The demand had been raised at a special standing committee meeting of the MCD where the chairmen of ward committees presented their budget proposals.

“Developmental works are suffering due to lack of finances. Hence, the councilors’ fund should be increased to Rs.2.5 crore,” they had demanded.
