KOLKATA - West Bengal Chief Minister and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Sunday cautioned party workers against adopting a superiority complex as this would further alienate the common man from the party.
“It is true that our opposition is getting the support of a section of people. It is because the people have moved away from us. A section of party workers think that they are kings and common people are their subjects. This kind of attitude will not be tolerated. We have to rectify our mistakes,” he said, addressing a public rally in North 24 Paraganas district.
“We have told the party workers that you have to behave as friends with common people. If you have done a mistake you should bow your heads and say sorry and party workers should always stay away from anti-social elements,” said Bhattacharjee.
The Congress-Trinamool Congress alliance defeated the ruling Left Front led by CPI-M in the last Lok Sabha elections, winning more than two-thirds of the state’s Lok Sabha seats. The alliacnce also made gains in the recent local bodies elections at the expense of the Left.
Bhattacharjee also blamed the Trinamool Congress for creating hurdles in the state’s path of progress.
“We have to think about those lakhs of students who are passing out every year in our state. They want jobs after completion of their education. Trinamool is trying to stop the process of development. But they will not succeed,” he said.
“In Singur they created problem. But after that also we are going forward. We will not allow them to stop the development process,” asserted Bhattacharjee.
