Delhi Lt. Governor’s wife dead

NEW DELHI - Delhi Lt. Governor Tejendra Khanna’s wife, Uma Khanna, died Sunday following a brief illness. She was 66.

According to a Raj Niwas statement, she was admitted to the Liver and Biliary Science Hospital at Vasant Kunj in south Delhi four days ago following a brief period of illness. She died at 4.25 a.m. Sunday.

She is survived by Khanna, a son and a daughter.

Among those who attended her cremation were Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri and ministers of the Delhi government. A special prayer meeting will be held at the governor’s residence, Raj Niwas Dec 15.

Uma Khanna was associated with various social and cultural organisations of Delhi. She was the president of the Young Women Association and Delhi T.B. Association and vice president of the Delhi Red Cross.
