Chidambaram hails victory of development model in Bihar

NEW DELHI - Stating that the development model had triumphed, Home Minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday congratulated Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance for their emphatic electoral victory.
“Development argument has prevailed in Bihar. We should congratulate Nitish Kumar and the BJP for the great show. We wish them the best for running a progressive and forward looking government,” Chidambaram told reporters outside parliament.
The remarks came as Bihar’s ruling alliance was poised to retain power, with the vote count indicating a sweeping win in the assembly elections.
In the counting trends, JD-U and BJP candidates were forging towards victory, crushing the divided opposition dreams of an upset verdict.
The Congress, which has been reduced to an also-ran in recent decades in Bihar, put up a humiliating show. Its candidates were ahead of others only in only a handful of seats.
