NEW DELHI - The central government has rejected a proposal to hike the salaries and perks of Delhi legislators, saying some of the facilities sought were not available even to MPs.

Delhi assembly speaker Yoganand Shastri said the proposal had been turned down by the home ministry.

An official said the proposal would be modified and again sent to the central government for approval.

The Delhi assembly sought to increase a legislator’s gross monthly salary from Rs.42,000 to Rs.80-90,000. The chief minister’s salary was to be hiked from Rs.46,000 to Rs.1.25 lakh.
