RAIPUR - Chhattisgarhs opposition Congress suffered a jolt Wednesday as its senior leader and two-time MP Pawan Diwan resigned from the party, sources said.

Diwan, an active politician in the state since 1977, sent his resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, said party sources.

Diwan alleged that he was being forced to quit the party as he was completely sidelined for the past two years.

He was elected to the Lok Sabha as a Congress candidate in 1991 and 1996 from Chhattisgarh.
