Karunanidhi fooling people over Cauvery water: Jayalalithaa
By IANSThursday, October 28, 2010
CHENNAI - AIADMK General Secretary J. Jayalalithaa Thursday charged Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi of “hoodwinking” the people of Tamil Nadu over getting the state’s share of Cauvery river waters from Karnataka.
“Karunanidhi is focussed on protecting the alliance with `hand’ (Congress’ electoral symbol) and not in asking for Tamil’s rights,” she charged.
Reacting to the statement made by Karunanidhi that legal steps will be taken to get Cauvery water from Karnataka, she said: “Only after I issued a statement on the matter Karunanidhi wrote a letter to the Karnataka government asking to release the water.”
According to her, the ’samba’ paddy crop is likely to be affected in the Cauvery delta region for want of the river waters.
The dams in Karnataka are getting filled due to the rains but the state government refuses to release the water share due to Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa added.
