MIDNAPORE - Trinamool MP Subhendu Adhikari said that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) CPI (M) and police personnel have a strong hold over the forests in the region and are harassing his party workers and arresting them illegally.

Adhikari visited Midnapore Central Jail to meet his party workers who were arrested by police officials suspecting them as Maoists ultras here on Wednesday.

“We want to say that the illegal activities carried out by the State police officials and the CPI (M) cadres in the forests of eastern Midnapore area should be stopped. Our party workers are being harassed everyday by the Joint Operation Forces and State police,” said Adhikari.

The Police and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) are running their jungle raj in this area and to end this we have initiated a movement with the blessings of our party leader MamataJi (Mamata Banerjee, Union Railway Minister) throughout the State and it would be continued in the coming days also,” he added.

Adhikari urged party supporters and locals to lead protests against the alleged atrocities of the ruling CPI (M).

Along with West Midnapore district, protests have also been held in Purulia and Bankura districts of the state. By Rick Sundar Sasmal (ANI)
