Groups demand explanation of ’sexting’ DA inaction

MADISON, Wis. — Pressure is building for regulators to explain why they failed to sanction a Wisconsin prosecutor who admitted sending sexually charged text messages to a domestic abuse victim.

Two victims advocacy groups demanded Thursday that the Office of Lawyer Regulation publicly reveal how it handled the case of Calumet County District Attorney Ken Kratz.

The agency and the Wisconsin Crime Victims’ Rights Board knew 10 months ago about Kratz’s behavior but didn’t discipline him. Their inaction has already been blasted by state lawmakers and Gov. Jim Doyle.

The text messages were revealed by The Associated Press last week. In them, Kratz tries to start an affair with the woman and calls her a “hot nymph.” At the time, he was prosecuting her ex-boyfriend.
