Suspect in NC chief’s daughter’s death to return
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A New York man will head back to North Carolina, where he’s facing charges in the death of a police chief’s daughter.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police spokeswoman Rosalyn Harrington said Wednesday that officers already in New York should return with Michael Neal Harvey by this weekend.
Harvey told a judge in Niagara County, N.Y., on Tuesday he won’t fight his return to Charlotte, where police have accused him of killing 23-year-old Valerie Hamilton.
Harvey said as he left the courtroom that the daughter of Concord Police Chief Merl Hamilton died in her sleep from an overdose.
Police say detectives found evidence of drug use and witnesses indicated that Hamilton appeared to need immediate medical attention after she left a bar with Harvey last week.
