Shumlin wins Democratic primary for Vt. governor
MONTPELIER, Vt. — A recount shows that Senate President Pro Tem Peter Shumlin has won the Democratic primary for Vermont governor.
The unofficial results were released Friday by Washington County Superior Court. Shumlin bested second-place finisher Doug Racine by 203 votes in the Aug. 24 primary election.
State Sen. Racine had called for a recount after official returns showed him 197 votes back. He conceded Friday and said he would work with Shumlin to get him elected.
The five-way primary was to select a Democrat nominee to oppose Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie in November’s election.
