NEW DELHI - The Congress Party has announced Rs. one lakh to the relatives of each of the workers who committed suicide in shock after former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s death in a helicopter crash in September last year.
At least 600 people are said to have died after Reddy’s death.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Andhra Pradesh M. Veerappa Moily said: “The Congress President has directed the AICC to pay Rs. one lakh each to the bereaved families.”
“The disbursement of money will be done after the concerned Congress MPs and District Congress Committee presidents return to their respective districts,” Moily added.
Stressing that the AICC acknowledges the contribution of the late YSR to the party, Moily said the Congress “pays tributes to the departed soul.
He also pointed out that Sonia Gandhi had earlier instructed the AICC to extend necessary relief to family members of those persons who had committed suicide after Reddy death.
