Libertarians say no to putting Murkowski on ticket

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The vice chairman of the Alaska Libertarians says his party will not consider putting U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski on his party’s ticket in the general election.

Harley Brown says Murkowski’s positions do not reflect the values of the Libertarian Party.

The decision was first reported by the Anchorage Daily News. Party Chairman Scott Kohlhaas (COAL-haas) said Murkowski had not approached the Libertarians, but there had been much speculation about the possibility.

Murkowski is running second to Fairbanks attorney Joe Miller for the Republican nomination.

Murkowski trails Miller by nearly 1,700 votes with more than 23,000 ballots remaining to be counted.

Brown says the party’s five-member executive committee held an emergency meeting Sunday and made a unanimous decision.
