NEW DELHI - Citing the arrest of former Gujarat minister Amit Shah in the killing of “dreaded terrorist” Sohrabuddin Sheikh and the “safe passage” to Union Carbide chief Warren Anderson in 1984, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj Wednesday attacked the Congress for allegedly misusing the CBI whenever it is in power.

“Gujarat’s former home minister is in jail, accused of killing a dreaded terrorist called Sohrabuddin Sheikh. But the killer of 15,000 people has been given a royal passage. CBI was acting at the behest of certain persons,” the Bharatiya Janata Party MP said in the Lok Sabha while initiating a debate on the Bhopal gas tragedy.

Amid protests from the treasury benches, Swaraj said the stories of Anderson, who was brought to Delhi from Bhopal in a government plane in 1984, and Bofors scam accused Ottavio Quattrocchi were similar.

“I would like to know from the Congress government, why do they love these foreigners?”

The CBI is seeking the withdrawal of prosecution against Italian businessman Quattrocchi in the Bofors pay-off scandal.
