Don’t run after votes, win people’s confidence: Varun Gandhi

LUCKNOW - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national secretary Varun Gandhi Wednesday called upon the party workers to set a target of winning over the confidence of people rather than making attempts to solicit their votes.
“We should not run after the votes… we should make serious effort to win over the confidence of the public. It should be set as a target in politics,” Gandhi told reporters at the BJP office here.
“In politics, credibility is paramount. If we are able to maintain and strengthen our credibility, then votes will automatically come to us,” he added.
Gandhi, who landed in this Uttar Pradesh capital Wednesday afternoon, also met the ailing 85-year-old party worker Ram Kumar alias Kaka, who had helped former Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee contest his first election from Balrampur.
After meeting Kumar, Varun asked the party workers to identify all such senior and old party workers, who had immensely contributed in strengthening the party’s base but are living in oblivion today due to varied reasons.
“I want that in every district, our partymen should identify those senior workers, who devoted their entire lives for the party but are now facing financial or other problems,” Gandhi said.
“If we use the term party, it should be applied in a broader sense. It should not be limited to a tool for attaining power. Party is like a family and therefore our workers should treat senior workers of the party as a part of their family and shall ensure they don’t face any problems in their lives,” he added.
