Police: Gunman kills 3 then himself in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police say they believe a man fatally shot a woman and two men then turned the gun on himself in a home in the city’s north side.

Police Sgt. Chris Benavides says the man carried two handguns as he entered the home in a quiet cul-de-sac in a gated community on Wednesday evening and shot the three.

Benavides says the woman’s children were playing outside when they heard shots ring out. They ran into the house, saw their dead mother, then fled. He says the gunman then apparently shot himself.

Police did not immediately release the identity of the gunman but say he appeared to know the people inside the home.

The children have been taken into protective custody.
