Cahill says RI made bad decision luring Schilling
BOSTON — Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate Timothy Cahill says Rhode Island made a “bad decision” by luring Curt Schilling’s video game company with a $75 million loan guarantee.
The treasurer said Tuesday it’s wrong for a state to take action to help individual companies. He says Massachusetts should try to retain all businesses by lower tax rates across the board and improving its regulatory climate.
Cahill prefaced his remarks by expressing admiration for Schilling, who as a pitcher helped the Boston Red Sox win their first World Series in 86 years.
Cahill also says Schilling has proven to be a good negotiator, but he “would not have done what Rhode Island did.”
Rhode Island announced Monday it would guarantee the loan to help Schilling’s “38 Studios,” which is currently based in Maynard, Mass.
