CANBERRA - Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has an election winning lead with two party preferred supports of 53 per cent, compared to the opposition Liberal-National coalition’s 48 per cent, according to the Galaxy poll conducted after Gillard announced August 21 as the election date.
According to the News.com.au, fifty-eight per cent of voters polled have said that they prefer Gillard as Prime Minister, while 32 per cent prefer opposition leader Tony Abbott.
The coalition needs a swing of 2.4 per cent to gain 18 seats after a mid-term redistribution of electoral boundaries.
Gillard, who has been Prime Minister for only 26 days, met Australia’s first female Governor-General, Quentin Bryce, on Saturday in a historic all-female beginning to the campaign. (ANI)
