AGRA - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, protesting against fuel price hike, clashed with the police here Saturday, officials said.

Fire Brigade engines were used as water cannons to disperse the party workers, agitating outside the collectorate, as they set on fire an effigy of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. The incensed BJP workers engaged in clashes with police as they were dispersed.

A local BJP leader told IANS the protest was also against the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to ban political parties from fighting local municipal elections in the state.
