Varkala Radhakrishnan Is No More

KERALA, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Former Lok Sabha member and veteran CPI-M leader Varkala Radhakrishnan passed away today after suffering complications resulting from a mishap that took place last week. The 84 year old veteran political leader of the party who was a speaker in the Kerala Assembly was admitted to the Medical College Hospital. He was struck by a vehicle when he was taking a stroll in the morning a few days back. Owing to that accident, the veteran politician suffered fractured ribs and in turn it affected his lungs. His condition started becoming worse from last night and he passed away around 9 am today, the doctors reported. He has left behind his spouse, two daughters and a son, as it has been reported.

Varkala Radhakrishnan left his mark in the Kerala politics and got elected to the Lok Sabha from Chirayinkil constituency thrice in his political career. He was considered as an able politician by his party as well as the opponents but by profession he was a lawyer. He was very efficient in interpreting the Parliamentary rules and constitution. As a speaker in the assembly he won accolades from fellow politicians for safeguarding the rights of the members of the House. The members got defense from him in cases of the Executive and judicial intervention.

Varkala Radhakrishnan was a staunch supporter of the CPIM party and he defended the party strongly during the fiasco involving Somnath Chatterjee, the former Lok Sabha Speaker. The party has expressed grief at his demise and the last rites are supposed to be performed soon.
