AMETHI - Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi Saturday said his party’s mission was to change the politics of Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state.

On the second and last day of his tour of his Lok Sabha constituency Amethi, some 150 km from Lucknow, Gandhi called upon his party workers to bring necessary changes in politics for the development of the state.

He told party workers at the Indira Gandhi PG college that they should not only seek to win elections but “instead focus on bringing positive changes in the politics of the state”, Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh said.

“He directed party activists to conduct necessary exercises that could help in evaluating the progress of welfare and developmental schemes being implemented with funds given by the central government,” Singh added.

Gandhi said he had got positive feedback from other political outfits regarding several central government sponsored schemes, particularly one related to providing rural jobs under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA).
