Nothing more to do with Kochi project: Achuthanandan

KOCHI/THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - The war of words between Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Smart City Dubai continued Thursday with the former saying the government has nothing more to do with the Kochi project.
“They can say anything. Do you know they had said that they would create 90,000 jobs in the project and till now they have not even placed a stone in the land,” Achuthanandan told reporters after a weekly cabinet meeting.
The octogenerian Marxist leader was responding to the press release issued by Smart City Dubai earlier in the day that it has “not asked for anything outside the framework agreement” signed with the Kerala government.
In 2007, Smart City Dubai signed the agreement to build the IT project. Since then, nothing has moved despite several rounds of discussions as both sides have differed over granting 12 percent freehold rights to the builder, among other issues.
The board of directors of the Smart City Kochi is scheduled to meet on March 29.
