Another ex-Lok Sabha member quits CPI-M

PALAKKAD - The ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) suffered another setback Wednesday when former Lok Sabha member of the party S. Sivaraman quit the political group, taking the total number of people who have left the party in less than a year to three.
“I had no other option but to quit CPI-M as the party was following what I have not heard or learned about communists,” said Sivaraman, who represented the Ottapalam Lok Sabha constituency during 1993-96.
“The rectification document of the party that is now being discussed is only for discussion because the wrongs continue to take place and hence there is no rectification. The leadership in the party says one thing and practises something else. Also, corruption is another issue,” he said.
Sivaraman, a student leader of the CPI-M, was fielded in 1993 at Ottapalam, a traditional Congress seat. He surprised everyone when he won with a margin of over 1.30 lakh votes.
He is the third former Lok Sabha member to have left CPI-M in less than a year.
Two-time former Lok Sabha member from Kannur A.P. Abdulla Kutty was booted out of the party in 2009. He is now a Congress legislator.
K.S. Manoj, CPI-M Lok Sabha member 2004-09 from Alappuzha, quit the party on ideological grounds early January this year.
