PANAJI - Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik was Tuesday hospitalised for suspected food poisoning when he was returning from a Republic Day function in Ponda, 30 km from here.
Naik, a Congress legislator from Ponda, was inspecting a newly-constructed road in Shantinagar while returning from a Republic Day function, when he started hiccupping severely and then vomited, eyewitnesses said.
“He started throwing up. But after that he spoke to people who had gathered around him for a few minutes, before he was rushed to hospital,” an onlooker said.
A spokesperson for the super-speciality Apollo hospital, where the home minister was admitted, said Naik was being diagnosed for food infection.
“We cannot say anything right now. But preliminary assessment indicates food poisoning,” the spokesperson said.
