KOLKATA, INDIA, (GaeaTimes.com)- The latest news of the veteran Communist Jyoti Basu is that he has passed away today, at the AMRI Hospital, Salt Lake. However, the news has not yet been confirmed by the hospital authorities or by the members of the Communist Party of India- Marxist. It is being assumed that he is under final observation and that a final announcement will be made around 5:30 in the evening. After being removed from the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit, he had been put on ventilation till now.
The 95 year old former Chief Minister of West Bengal had been admitted to the AMRI Hospital with acute pneumonia, following which he had immediately been taken in the Intensive Care Unit. Even last night, he had been administered an intravenous antibiotic, and was also given an unit of blood. He had been put under observation for 48 hours in the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit. According to Debasish Sharma, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, the latest news was that Jyoti Basu’s condition was very serious late on Tuesday and early Wednesday.
On the other hand, the hospital authorities had reported on Tuesday that Jyoti Basu’s condition was much stable. In fact, his aide, Joykrishna Ghosh had commented to the press that the aged veteran had also spoken to him and expressed his wish to be taken home. Soon after, however, his condition had deteriorated rapidly and he had been put on life support after he began to suffer from acute respiratory problems. Since then, he was being supervised by a team of six doctors till he reportedly passed away, as per the latest news on Jyoti Basu.
