Readout of the President’s Call with the Amir of Kuwait

The President spoke by phone today with His Highness Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait. The President conveyed condolences on the passing of Sheikh Sabah’s brother, Sheikh Khalid Al-Sabah, and thanked the Amir for Kuwait’s steadfast support to U.S. troops. The President thanked the Amir for Kuwait’s generous pledge of assistance to the Transitional National Council of Libya and stressed the importance of such financial support to the opposition given their urgent needs. Both leaders renewed their pledge to build on the historic ties between the United States and Kuwait.
