SHIMLA - The Himachal Pradesh government Wednesday finalised a series of schemes for the rehabilitation of the nomadic Gujjar community in the state, an official said.
A government spokesperson told IANS that Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal directed the deputy commissioners of the community-concentrated districts to identify land for permanent settlement of the Gujjars.
“The aim is to bring the Gujjars in the mainstream so that they could also reap benefits of development and social welfare regularly,” he added.
The chief minister also announced that the government would soon open residential schools for Gujjar students in Kangra and Chamba districts.
