Regional developments present new opportunity: Iran

TEHRAN - Iran said Tuesday the exit of the Egyptian and Tunisian presidents presented a new opportunity for the region as these caused a major blow to the interests of the hegemonic powers and supporters of the Zionist regime.
The US officials have become confused due to the recent developments in the Middle East and North Africa, said foreign ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast.
“We understand the US officials’ confused mental state as they have been faced with the new situation due to the recent developments in the region,” the official IRNA news agency quoted Mehmanparast as saying in his press briefing.
The regional states no longer need the US to meddle in their affairs, Mehmanparast said, referring to the US remarks on the situation in Egypt and Tunisia.
On Feb 11, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down from power after 30 years of uninterrupted rule following weeks of anti-regime protests, while Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was ousted last month in a similar revolt.
Mehmanparast said the regional states wanted to see the hegemonic states stop their interference in the regional affairs and halt their support for Israel.
