LONDON - Britain’s Prince William and his fiancee Kate Middleton, have chosen their siblings to take the roles of best man and maid of honour at their forthcoming wedding, it was announced Monday.
William, 29, who is second-in-line to the throne, will have his younger brother, Harry, 26, at his side during the Westminster Abbey wedding April 29.
Kate Middleton, 29, has chosen her younger sister, Philippa, 27, to be maid of honour during the ceremony, St James’s Palace said.
In their respective roles, the best man and maid of honour are called upon to deliver speeches at the wedding reception, as well as being tasked with organizing the pre-wedding stag-and hen parties for the couple.
Harry, known as the party prince, is certain to come up with a wild plan for his brother’s last bash as a bachelor, for which T-shirts bearing the slogan Will Wales’ Stag Night, have already gone on sale.
The ladies are expected to stage a more civilised affair for Middleton’s hen party with female friends, expected to take place at a night club in central London.
The couple have also chosen four bridesmaids and two page boys, of whom two are godchildren of Prince William. The others include Eliza Lopes, the three-year-old granddaughter of Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, and children of close friends.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry fuelled rising speculation about his own romantic attachments Monday when it was reported that he had been seen having a pizza with Chelsy Davy, his on-and-off girlfriend, and other friends, in London last Friday.
Davy, who was born in Zimbabwe, was Harry’s girlfriend for five years before the couple broke up in 2009. They have recently spent more time together again.
