NEW YORK - UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Friday renewed a call for a “transparent, peaceful and orderly” transition in Egypt now that President Hosni Mubarak has stepped down.

“The extent and pace of the transition is for the people of Egypt to decide,” UN spokesman Martin Nesirky quoted Ban as saying.

Nesirky said Ban has been urging for the start of the transition of power in Cairo to meet the demands of the Egyptian people who had become “clearly frustrated” of their government.
