UAE leaders greet India on Republic Day

Abu Dhabi, Jan 26 (IANS/WAM) United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Wednesday sent greetings to India on the occasion of the country’s 62nd Republic Day.

Sheikh Khalifa has sent a congratulatory cable to Indian President Pratibha Patil.

UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also sent a similar cable.

India celebrated its 62nd Republic Day with a grand spectacle of its military might and cultural diversity in the heart of the capital, New Delhi, with big and small events also held across the length and breadth of the country.

Thousands of people turned out to watch the national flag unfurled and parades by police and armed forces.

The biggest spectacle of all was at the Rajpath boulevard in New Delhi where the country’s who’s who assembled to watch an immaculate 100-minute parade that displayed India’s military prowess and cultural heritage.

Among those who enjoyed the sights and sounds with visible delight was visiting Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who was the chief guest on the celebrations.
