HOSHIARPUR - The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) youth wing was firm on its stand on hoisting the national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar on Republic Day despite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s appeals of not disturbing peace in the “sensitive” Jammu and Kashmir, a party leader said Saturday.
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) had initiated Rashtriya Ekta Yatra from Kolkata Jan 12 and it will culminate Jan 26 with the hoisting of national flag at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, its president Anurag Thakur said.
We had started our yatra on Jan 12 but our prime minister was quiet so far. Now suddenly he has started giving statements. But we would not change our decision and would hoist the flag at Lal Chowk at any cost, Thakur said here late Saturday.
So far, we have crossed nearly 10 states, but our movement did not disturb law and order situation at any place. We are committed to follow the peaceful path, he added.
Thakur, who is also the MP from the Hamirpur constituency in Himachal Pradesh, is leading this yatra.
