Deve Gowda backs governor’s action as ‘appropriate’

NEW DELHI - Former prime minister and Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) chief H.D. Deve Gowda Friday described the sanction accorded by Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj to prosecute Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa as an “appropriate constitutional action”.
The governor had just done his “constitutional duty” and had examined the records before taking the action, Gowda told a TV channel.
The former prime minister said that media and public personalities had raised the issue of nepotism against Yeddyurappa for allotting prime land to his kin and kith.
“It (the governor’s action) is not a political action, but an exercise of his constitutional authority by the governor,” Gowda added.
The JD-S is a major opposition party in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Karnataka.
