NEW DELHI - After the reshuffle in the council of ministers Wednesday, the Congress leadership is expected to finalise changes in the All India Congress Committee (AICC) lineup, party sources here said.
They said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi was finalising the contours of the changes in the party’s office-bearers, and the process may see the induction of some new faces.
Gandhi is also about to finalise the composition of the Congress Working Committee, the highest decision-making body of the party.
Party leaders said that announcement of the new working committee could be made in the next few days.
Gandhi was authorised to nominate the working committee at the AICC meeting in November. The working committee has 25 members including the prime minister and the Congress president.
Some ministers including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mukul Wasnik, M. Veerapa Moily, A.K. Antony and V. Narayanasamy are holding organizational responsibilities as incharge of states.
The party is also expected to make announcement of Congress chiefs in some states. While Gandhi had nominated a few Congress chiefs after her re-election as party president in September last year, names of party chiefs in some states have not been announced.
Party sources said that the changes will factor in the assembly elections slated for later this year in some crucial states including West Bengal and Kerala.
