KOLKATA - The Rashtriya Ekta Jatra of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will further worsen the situation in the Kashmir Valley as the saffron party has no understanding of the situation there, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat said Sunday.
“This yatra of BJP and its youth wing to Kashmir will further worsen the situation. They don’t have any understanding of the problem. In the Kashmir Valley, after five months of turmoil, efforts are being made to engage all sections of the people,” he said.
“At this juncture the BJP and its youth wing going over there and hoisting the national flag will further aggravate the situation,” said Karat while addressing media persons here.
The youth wing of the BJP, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, has kicked off the Kolkata-Srinagar Rashtriya Ekta Yatra with the declared aim of strengthening the unity of the nation and to bind the youth of India with Kashmir.
The rally started Jan 12 from Kolkata and will pass through 11 states before reaching Lal Chowk in Srinagar on the Republic Day (Jan 26), where it will culminate in hoisting of the national flag.
