JAMMU - Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani on Friday accused the Congress Party of being over obsessed with BJP’s activities in raising the issue of scams and demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the 2G spectrum scam.

Advani said after the 83rd Congress plenary session in New Delhi, the newspapers and media reported how Congress had diverted the issue of scams by attacking the Opposition parties.

“The topic of debate for them (Congress Party) was not the increasing activities of the Maoists. Foreign policy is futile, militancy is on an increase, corruption has also increased, these were not the issues of discussion. The topic of debate was how much Bharatiya Janata Party has increased,” said Advani.

“It has increased so much that the issue of corruption was mooted by BJP that a discussion could not take place in the Parliament and all the opposition parties together demanded for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) and without it there will be no discussion,” he added

Advani further said that if the Congress party had parted with a tiny share of the money transacted in the various scams, the Jammu and Kashmir region would have progressed to a certain extent.

“When the 2G spectrum scam came to the fore, and the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General said that Rs 1.76 trillion was the loss to the exchequer, students asked how are we to write this figure? How many zeroes will be there in the figure? And it was rightly said by Arun Jaitley that if a small part of that amount was given to Jammu and Kashmir then a lot of problems of the state could have been solved,” said Advani.

Former telecom Minister A. Raja was forced to resign last month after a report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) faulted him for undervaluing spectrum to favour companies who were largely ineligible for 2G spectrum, and added that the government had probably lost Rs.1.76 lakh crore in estimated revenue.
