Delhi building collapse: BJP to provide victims free legal aid

NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday said it will provide free legal aid to the victims of the building collapse in east Delhi in which at least 69 people were killed and 82 injured.
BJP Delhi unit chief Vijendra Gupta said the party will provide a team of advocates free of cost during hearing of the matter so that the case does not weaken in the court and the victims are able to get justice.
A five-storey house collapsed in east Delhi’s Lalita Park locality Nov 15, killing at least 69 people, including daily wage workers from Bihar and West Bengal.
Alleging that the building’s owner Amritpal Singh had the support of “some Congress leaders” and the police, Gupta alleged that efforts will be made to weaken the case in the court.
“And because of this, the BJP has decided that this case should be monitored in the court and in police investigation continuously. The party will also look into how close Amritpal Singh and Congress leaders were,” Gupta added.
For this, the BJP will provide a team of senior and experienced advocates to the victims so that they are able to get justice.
The BJP leader also claimed that due to “ineffectiveness” of the Congress government and a nexus of politicians and police, rules are not followed in construction of slums, leading to Delhi turning into a slum.
A major reason of illegal construction in the national capital is that Delhi government is not regularising about 1,700 unauthorised colonies due to political interests, he said.
