Patil, Ansari condole freedom fighter’s death

NEW DELHI - President Pratibha Patil and Vice-President M. Hamid Ansari Wednesday mourned the death of freedom fighter Satyavati, noting that with her death the nation has lost an eminent personality.
The country’s oldest freedom fighter Satyavati died here at the age of 105 Tuesday.
In her message, Patil said: “Satyavati was a freedom fighter, who actively participated in our freedom struggle. I fondly recall my meeting with her at her residence last year. In her death, the nation has lost an eminent personality and a great freedom fighter.”
In his message to the freedom fighter’s family, the vice-president said: “I am deeply grieved to learn about the sad demise of Satyavati. My wife and I express our heartfelt condolences to you and all family members. We pray to the almighty to grant strength and fortitude to you to bear this loss.”
Late Lala Achint Ram, a Gandhian, was Satyavati’s husband. He was also one of the founders of Servants of People Society with Lala Lajpat Rai.
