BJP raps government on Geelani meeting in Delhi

NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday hit out at the government for allowing hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Geelani to address a public meeting in Delhi where he made “seditious remarks”.
“What happened in New Delhi is shocking. And that such a thing was allowed… Allowing separatists to hold a meeting and to make seditious remarks… No government can accept it. How did the government allow this … The government should explain,” BJP vice-president M. Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here Friday.
Naidu alleged that Maoist sympathisers were present at Geelani’s meeting.
The meeting titled ‘Azadi: The Only Way’ was organised by a group, Committee for Release of Political Prisoners.
Booker Prize-winning author-activist Arundhati Roy and several other civil rights leaders attended the meeting, which was disrupted for a while by slogan-shouting protesters belonging to Kashmiri Pandit groups and the BJP.
