BANGALORE - The Congress said Monday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Karnataka had no moral right to continue as it had lost the trust of the people in the state.

The (B.S.) Yeddyurappa government won the trust vote but people have lost trust in the BJP. Never in the history of Karnataka has there been such a disastrous government, Congress general secretary B.K. Hariprasad said about the BJP’s first government in the southern state.

Hariprasad, who is a former Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka, said the Yeddyurappa government had lost the moral right to continue.

It has no moral right to continue. It is one of the most corrupt and worst governments Karnataka has seen, he said.

The Yeddyurappa government Monday proved its majority by winning the confidence motion through a voice vote, Speaker K.G. Bopaiah declared amid chaos here.

The Congress as well as the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) lawmakers, however, cried foul and have asked for the dismissal of the 29-month-old BJP government. They said the was not been conducted properly.

Monday morning saw much drama with the speaker disqualifying 16 rebel legislators, including 11 of the ruling BJP and five Independents, hours before the trust vote.
