DOVER (GaeaTimes.com)- On Tuesday the Delaware Republican Primary election results has not only shocked the Republican party insiders but also the general public and the political analysts who have voiced their concern over the future of the Republican party. On Tuesday night, conservative political commentator Christine O’Donnell went on to win the Republican nomination for the Delaware Gubernatorial election this fall despite the opposition from the moderate Republicans. However, Former Sen. Lincoln Chafee who is running for Rhode Island as an Independent has said to media sources that the GOP Representative Mike Castle should have expected a fight for the Senate seat from the Tea Party.
Lincoln Chafee, now an independent candidate, commented that Christine O’Donnell’s win is not something unexpected. He held that the primaries are like “destructive beasts” and if they left to get a control over the Republican Party, then according to him, the path to get a majority will only get tougher for the Republicans. He held that the leaders of the Republican party have been scared to the right and have in the process left no place for the moderates in the party. It is for this reason Lincoln Chafee implied that Christine O’Donnell was able to win the Senate nomination.
While on Tuesday Christine O’Donnell’s nomination for the Senate seat has upset many Republicans, many others have voiced that she might win the seat this fall. Christine O’Donnell will be facing Democrat candidate Chris Coons this fall and already the supporters of Tea Party are trying to strengthen the position of their candidate at the senate. However, election data of previous years point to the fact that the residents of Delaware prefer a moderate candidate than an extremist.
